IMG_1479Carol Handler, a docent from The Columbus Museum of Art, visited the first graders at Circleville Elementary School on October 26 in preparation for their visit to
IMG_1482 the museum later in the week.  Mrs. Handler used a slide presentation to introduce the students to some of the artwork that they will see at the museum. The theme of the educational program at CMA is “The Study of Lines”. Students viewed pictures of artwork by renowned artists Lucas Sameras, Paul Feeley and Alexander Calder, just to name a few, and discussed the types of lines that were used by these artists. They also used different strategies to compare art pieces, specifically focusing on shapes and colors. In conclusion, Mrs. Handler expressed the importance of making personal connections to artwork that the students will see at CMA. By making up stories about the pictures they will make the art “belong” to them.
